Hey everyone its your friendly at home Esthetician and I'm back to teach you guys how to do an at home facial for under 20$!! Your probably thinking "but I will never be able to do it like them" annnnddd that's were you are wrong. Today I am going to teach you how to properly wash, exfoliate, massage, mask and rehydrate your skin like a pro.

Washing Your Face

Yes, I know, you have been washing your face since you were 13, of course you know how to. But did you know that certain techniques to use to get the most out of your face washing? For starters don't use water on your face at the highest temperature. Not only is this damaging but it over dries the skin which leads to irritation and redness (no one wants that). When washing your face use lukewarm water, like you would use if your washing your puppy.

So you have your water at the right temp and clean hands (yes you gotta wash those hands), cup some of water in your hands and put it on your face. Now don't rub to move the water around, just place it on your face, do this as many times as it takes to have your face fully wet. Next your going to grab your face wash, I will have some of my favorites listed down below. (Any purchases that you make from links on this blog will give me a commission from them) Gently massage the face wash onto your face and neck starting at your neck. I recommend washing in gently circles for at least 30-45 seconds, no longer than a minute. This is a good chance to start massaging your face if you would like, if not don't worry that will come later. Next your going to use your lukewarm water and rinse the water off.

Exfoliate

Next your going to exfoliate, now some exfoliants require dry skin some you can use wet, I will have both options listed down bellow. So you will now use your exfoliant of choice and then dry your face completely. I do prefer chemical exfoliants due to the fact my skin is super sensitive, when I use a scrub not only does it cause damage, it actually hurts.

If your wondering what the difference between chemical and physical exfoliants one uses chemicals to exfoliate the skin and one uses a scrub. Chemical exfoliates can remove more layers of the skin to give you a deeper exfoliation leading to smoother skin. Physical exfoliants use little beads to exfoliate the face and only remove 1 to 2 layers of skin. If you are using physical exfoliants make sure you only use them a couple times a week, any more and it could cause damage.

Steam

So now its the steaming step. Steam is great for opening up your pores as well as great for getting the skin ready for a mask. Now I know not everyone has a fancy face steamer at home so I have a few suggestions. You could boil water and place your face about the steam, cheapest option as well as you most likely already have everything you need. You could use a rag, wet it, place it in the microwave and once it has cooled down enough to be put on your face use the warmth to open up your pores.

I recommend steaming for up to 10 minutes but no longer. After a while it does get hot and you'll start sweating. Remember this is supposed to be relaxing, not a workout.

Face Mask

Next your going to use a face mask of your choice. I love the sheet masks that have little animals on them. I just find them so fun! Okay so once you have chosen which face mask your using apply and keep it on however long it recommends and then wash off if it recommends that.

Serums

If your a serum using human this your chance to use it. I would recommend only using tops 2 serums due to the fact that after that it will not soak into your skin as much as you would like and give you all the amazing benefits. Serums are expensive but that doesn't meant there aren't good-affordable ones out there! Ill have a list of the ones I recommend down bellow. Unfortunately I couldn't find any that would fit into the 20$ budget but I will still show the ones I recommend the most.

Protect Protect Protect

Now this is probably hands down the most important step. Protect your skin. Sun damage is the #1 cause of aging skin and after exfoliating your skin becomes more prone to skin damage. In this step grab your favorite sunscreen and your favorite moisturizer. Put a little bit of each on the tip of your fingers and mix mix mix. Then rub all over your face, starting at the neck once again, and gently rub in circles. Once you have it all rubbed in your all done!!

At home facials are easy and perfect for a pamper night. I recommend doing one at least once a month but no more than once a week.

I hope you guys learned something new and enjoyed your at home facial!! Let me know in the comments if you tried it and what you think! If you have anything you would like me to teach you or talk about let me know!!
